Grassroots Programmes – Introductory programmes for youth

The NYFDL understands that grassroots football and community engagement are the foundation of the game, prioritising the love of football and joy of participation. The NYFDL’s partnership with schools supports the integration of football into the curriculum, offering coaching and training to students and teachers.
Summer Camps and Festivals: These events provide a fun and engaging way for young people to participate in football, often featuring skill games, tournaments, and opportunities to meet professional footballers. Watch out for a programme near you! Link to holiday calendar

The NYFDL adopts the processes, principles and criteria for Elite Player Performance Charter Standard with the aim of supporting a world leading Academy system. The fundamental principles of the standard include increasing the number and quality of Youth Players, creating more time for players to play and be coached and improving coaching provision.
The league supports and places emphasis within the Academy system, on ‘Player Care’, including Safeguarding and Education, with the overall aim of ensuring that involvement in the Academy system is a life-enriching experience for all.
A system of measurement and quality assurance has been established whereby Academies are independently assessed, with resultant recommendations determining their admission into the league. Our academy league model is a late development model, operating from the Under-17 age group upwards.
