Referee Training – How to become an official

Referee Training – How to become an official
To become a football referee in the NYFDL, you need to follow a structured path overseen by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Nigeria Referees Association (NFRA). This involves attending a certified referee training course, completing practical training and assessments, and registering with your local referee’s council.

STEP by STEP GUIDE:
Step 1. Attend a Referee Training Course:
Start by participating in a training program organized by the NFF or your local referees council. These courses provide the foundational knowledge and skills needed to be a referee.
Step 2. Complete Practical Training and Assessments:
This may involve observing experienced referees, participating in practical training sessions, and passing assessments to demonstrate your competency.
Step 3. State Registration:
Once you’ve completed the training, you’ll likely need to register with your state’s football association to be eligible to officiate matches within that state.
Step 4. Gain Experience:
Start officiating matches at various levels (friendly games, local tournaments) to build your experience and refine your skills.
The NYFDL in partnership with Charterhouse Lagos and the English FA will be running a series of refereeing courses for young people aged 14 -18. Watch this space!
