All individuals involved in the activities of the NYFDL and their member organisations are mandated (mandatory) reporters of any known or suspected child abuse. Abuse does not need to be confirmed. Members should never seek to conduct their own investigations. Sexual Misconduct as outlined in the NYFDL Safeguarding Policy also must be reported to the relevant agencies including the police regardless of the age of the parties involved. If Sexual Misconduct involves a Minor, it must be reported as Child Abuse as detailed in the reporting abuse guidelines. Reasonable suspicion of sexual, physical, or mental abuse must be reported within a 24-hour period of awareness
